Aphex Twin - Drukqs returns in a major 25th anniversary edition through Warp Records. Originally released in 2001, the album remains one of Richard D. James’s most ambitious and unpredictable works, moving between hyper-detailed electronic rhythms, prepared-piano miniatures, distorted breaks and moments of extraordinary melodic stillness. This 2026 reissue marks the first standard-format vinyl edition of the album and restores every Aphex Twin studio album to print on vinyl.

Across four LPs, Drukqs unfolds as a deliberately unstable sequence. Tracks such as “Vordhosbn”, “Cock/ver10”, “54 Cymru Beats” and “Ziggomatic 17” push programmed percussion into dense, rapidly shifting structures, with microscopic edits and abrupt changes of direction. These pieces sound both mechanical and intensely physical, demonstrating James’s ability to create rhythm that remains disorienting even after repeated listening.

In contrast, the album contains some of Aphex Twin’s most widely recognised and emotionally direct compositions. “Avril 14th” is a brief prepared-piano piece whose simple melody has travelled far beyond electronic music, while “QKThr”, “Kesson Dalek”, “Hy A Scullyas Lyf Adhagrow” and “Nanou2” create quieter spaces within the record’s fractured architecture. The movement between acoustic intimacy and digital overload is central to the album’s identity.

Other highlights include the expansive “Mt Saint Michel + Saint Michaels Mount”, the eerie “Gwely Mernans”, the playful “Omgyjya-Switch7” and the layered rhythmic force of “Taking Control”. Rather than separating its contrasting styles, Drukqs places them side by side, creating an album that feels like an archive of private systems, invented languages and competing musical impulses.

This anniversary edition is pressed on four black vinyl records, housed in polylined inner sleeves and a gatefold outer sleeve. It offers a more accessible standard vinyl presentation than the album’s long-unavailable original format while retaining the complete vinyl running order. Released by Warp Records, Drukqs is an essential electronic landmark and a pre-order for release on 30 October 2026.
